An Eastern Wisconsin Senator’s bill aimed at expanding adoption education opportunities is one step away from the governor’s desk.
Senate Bill 887, authored by Sen. Andre Jacaque, passed the Senate Committee on Education on a bipartisan 4-1 vote and now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
The measure would specifically require school districts to provide age-appropriate instruction on adoption.
Sen. Jacque explained to SeehaferNews.com, “Providing instruction on adoption will give students a greater understanding of the full range of supports and options available to both parents and children in Wisconsin. This legislation will help equip students with critical information about options available if they are someday faced with an unexpected pregnancy, and will hopefully generate an openness about considering adoption themselves down the road.”
The Assembly version of the bill, led by Representative Rob Summerfield of Bloomer, passed in the Assembly back in February.
