A local conservation organization is looking to revitalize the tree population in Lincoln Park.
The Manitowoc Unit of the County Fish and Game Protective Association has approved appropriation funding to the City of Manitowoc’s Parks Department for the project, which is an attempt to counteract the impact of the Emerald Ash Borer.
The City had to remove multiple trees from Lincoln Park that had become infested by the invasive species over the past several years.
A total of $2,000 in funding was approved to address Lincoln Park as well as the Bayshore Trail.
There will be several varieties of trees and shrubs planted at both locations, which the organization says, “should be very beneficial for the environment, wildlife, birds, and pollinators.”
Signage will also be installed recognizing the Manitowoc Unit of Fish and Game as the donor.
The committee is also in the planning stages for a similar project at Silver Creek Park, which will be addressed in the future.
