A fast-acting Door County Sheriff’s Deputy was able to minimize the damage from a fire in Egg Harbor over the weekend.
The Egg Harbor Fire Department was dispatched to the 5000 block of Alpen Lane just after 4:00 Monday morning (March 9th) on a report of a bedroom fire.
The occupants were already evacuating when a deputy with the Door County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene.
That deputy grabbed the fire extinguisher from his squad car and was able to douse most of the fire.
Firefighters arrived shortly afterward to completely extinguish the flames and check for hot spots.
The cause of the fire was determined to have been the improper disposal of smoking materials, and it caused an estimated $20,000 in damage.
No injuries were reported.
