Lakeland University’s men’s wrestling coach has been honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
Last week, Coach Mike DeRoehn was announced as the NWCA’s Region 7 Coach of the Year, after another year of leading the Muskie’s men’s wrestling team’s impressive resurgence.
This past season, DeRoehn’s Muskies finished with a 9-4 record in duals, which marked the best season for the program in over a decade and their highest win total since the 203-2014 season.
On the program’s resurgence under his tutelage, DeRoehn said, “I like to say, ‘It’s an evolution, not a revolution,’ which involves collaboration amongst our outstanding coaching staff, the administration, our athletic trainer, sports information, along with alumni, donors, etc. But most importantly, it is earned by the student-athletes who actually put their foot on the line to compete and represent the core values of our program, on and off the mat!”
The Muskie’s men’s wrestling team finished its season placing 9th of a6 teams at the NCAA Division III Region 7 Regional.
