The City of Two Rivers has updated its municipal code regarding alcohol.
The city council voted 6-2 on Monday (March 2nd) to establish a late fee for renewal of an alcohol beverage license for applications submitted after May 1st.
However, the city is also looking to explore selling alcohol on a limited basis at public parks to help offset the costs for maintaining Neshotah Beach.
It would be done at major events like Beach Bash or other city-run events.
City Manager Kyle Kordell says the ordinance update is also a continued step toward financial sustainability, as money normally comes out of the city’s general fund and goes toward beach cleanup and maintenance.
Some council members, including Darla LeClair, were concerned about intruding on the Two Rivers Rotary Club, which has served alcohol during events.
Kordell says the city’s interest will not affect the Rotary Club, and they are aware of what the city wants to do.
The city manager also hopes that selling alcohol at certain beach functions could slow down the number of people bringing their own alcohol, which is allowed.
Councilmembers Bonnie Shimulunas and Tim Petri voted against the ordinance.
