The Milwaukee Common Council is giving the green light to a settlement connected to a non-deadly police shooting three years ago.
The $950,000 settlement was approved by city leaders this week after a lawsuit was filed in 2024 against Milwaukee and three police officers.
It was filed on behalf of Allen Dekeyser, who was shot by a police officer in 2022 when his wife, Marqueta, warned police he was threatening to harm himself.
The lawsuit said police falsely claimed Allen pointed his gun at an officer before being shot, and Marqueta was unlawfully detained after the shooting.
The settlement still needs to be approved by Mayor Cavalier Johnson.
