The two elementary school principals in Two Rivers Public Schools are supporting the district’s realignment of their schools.
Superintendent Diane Johnson reexplained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program on Tuesday (March 3rd) that the realignment is happening due to population decline that the district started to see in the 2024-2025 school year.
Although the conversation about the plan started in 2022.
The conversation restarted in 2025 because of teachers working together and enrollment.
Koenig Elementary Principal Dana McLinn says she started having conversations with teacher teams and had listening sessions with businesses and parents.
They also had to work with the bus companies.
“So alter and stagger times, so that when you have a student at my building or Chad’s building (Magee), and they have to go to the middle school, we know that those times can’t overlap,” she explained. “So, (we’re) trying to work with our bus company right now on how that’s going to look for busing for our families.”
Magee Elementary School Principal Chad Bauknecht explained that this upcoming school year, 4K, kindergarten, and 1st grade will be at Koenig, while 2nd through 4th grade will be at Magee.
He noted that it will make it better for class sizes.
“You pick up some new students, and you already have two pretty full sections, and you got a couple more students coming in, it does make some of those sections a little bit more difficult to manage,” he stated. “So, being able to disperse students a little bit more equally across classrooms is another added benefit to the process.”
Johnson says parents have responded with questions about the bus service as well as other childcare services.
