There’s a jury scam affecting residents in Manitowoc County.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office says a community member recently received a call from individuals claiming to be law enforcement, falsely stating that the person had missed jury duty and would be arrested if they didn’t pay $800 in gift cards.
The scammer continued to pressure the woman, even instructing her to avoid speaking to Manitowoc County Sheriff’s deputies.
The department reminds all residents again that those calls are fraudulent, and law enforcement will never demand payment over the phone, request gift cards, or threaten arrest for missing jury duty.
If you do get a call like this, hang up immediately, do not engage the caller, and do not provide personal information or any form of payment.
If a county resident has already been given money, they should call the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office at 920-683-4200 for assistance.
Manitowoc County sheriff’s deputies finish saying they appreciate the community’s continued vigilance in helping prevent the scams.
