Two men were taken into police custody following a physical altercation at the Manitowoc County Warming Shelter.
Police were called to the shelter located at 702 State Street at 6:00 Saturday evening after workers reported two men had gotten into a fight.
Pastor Matthew Sauer with the Warming Shelter informed SeehaferNews.com that the two men involved had arrived at the shelter already intoxicated, and staff immediately called 911 when the fight began.
The police report noted that one of the men refused to comply with police orders until their tasers were drawn, but even after being placed in handcuffs, the 38-year-old man continued to resist.
At one point, he also allegedly attempted to kiss one of the officers on the forehead and tried to pull away.
He was eventually taken to the Manitowoc County Jail on charges of Disorderly Conduct, Resisting an Officer, and two counts of Felony Bail Jumping.
The second man was arrested, however it doesn’t appear that charges were filed.
Pastor Sauer also told us that there was no disruption to service as the incident occurred very shortly after opening, adding, “The actions of these individuals do not represent what happens at the shelter. Additional steps are being taken, in partnership with local enforcement, to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
