Manitowoc County’s executive is giving more information about revenue generated through the new sales tax.
Bob Ziegelbauer said on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the county budgeted for about $7.5 million in sales tax revenue.
“We have $7.4 something million dollars already in eleven months,” he explained. “I think we’ll have maybe eight or $8.1 million by the end of February through December.”
Ziegelbauer says the first-year figure was conservative because they didn’t know how many people would travel to the county.
But he believes it will grow over the next couple of years due to the economy.
While the first year of sales tax was budgeted, the county executive says this year, “The money will be deposited in a fund that the county board will have access to.”
Ziegelbauer finishes by saying he feels the county is in good financial condition right now.
The county created a resolution for the sales tax back in 2024, and it officially started in January 2025.
