After around one victory, the Valders girls basketball team took on the Kewaunee Storm last night (February 27th) in a second-round matchup.
In a game that was the third playoff meeting in the last three years for these sides, Kewaunee would take down the Vikings 62-48.
Valders jumped out to an early 5-0 lead; however, the Storm would go on a run to capture the lead and would never give it up.
Kewaunee’s impressive defensive effort had them leading 26-18 at the break.
The Storm would keep rolling in the second, breaking open an 18-point lead, but the Valders girls would not quit.
With approximately 6 minutes to go, the Vikings cut the deficit to just 6, but that’s all the closer they would get.
With the loss, it marks the end of the high school basketball careers for Valders seniors Zoey Siders, Abby Schultz, Anna Olson, Audrey Wagner, and Megan Hochkammer, with Hochkammer finishing as the all-time leading scorer in program history.
In an emotional moment, despite the losing effort, Wagner would play the last 3.3 seconds of the ball game after going out of the first game of the season with a devastating knee injury.
Hochkammer finished the game with a game-high 25 points while Kewaunee senior Braelyn Chevalier led her side with 21.
Valders ends their season at 15-11 and 9-5 in the EWC.
