A Manitowoc man charged with stabbing someone in 2023 has had his trial delayed.
Court records show that 63-year-old David Downs was back in Manitowoc County court Monday (February 23rd) for a status conference.
Downs’ attorneys received about 1,000 pages from the state, but the expert who is supposed to download the files has not been able to do so.
The defense then stated they don’t feel they’ll be ready for the trial that was scheduled for March.
Judge Mark Rohrer rescheduled the jury trial for April 7th at 8:30 a.m.
Downs is facing charges of attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide, substantial battery, battery, and resisting or obstructing an officer.
Back in 2023, Manitowoc Police were called to the 400 block of Riverview Drive after someone was stabbed with a butcher knife.
Police say the 63-year-old was seen doing the stabbing and then kicking the person repeatedly.
The victim didn’t say what caused Downs to stab them, but they were pushed to the ground before they were stabbed.
