Manitowoc County’s congressman in Washington says President Trump laid out a clear vision for America’s future during last night’s State of the Union Address.
Republican Cong. Glenn Grothman explained that he heard the president “promise lower costs for prescription drugs and highlighted the success of reducing the taxpayer handouts to insurance companies, who are the primary beneficiary of Obamacare.”
The Glenbeulah representative says working families will also keep more of their hard-earned money, with Wisconsin families receiving average tax cuts of $3,177, a $2,200 child tax credit, and historically high refunds this year.
Rep. Grothman was also happy to see Vice President JD Vance put in charge of a new task force to tackle welfare and clean up the fraud in a “bloated system,” as “the welfare system in our country has become so out-of-control that fraud is rampant, criminals are not being held accountable, and Americans are being trapped in a cycle of dependency.”
The Sixth District Congressman finished by saying that the speech reinforces the results the country is seeing and the direction the administration is taking, and he’s excited to continue working with Trump.
Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin brought Mindoro resident Kim Fredrick to the State of the Union last night to talk about the importance of Medicaid.
She said Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill gutted $1 trillion from the Medicaid program and introduced new red tape designed to kick people off their care and threatens the care for Kim and her son, who has Down Syndrome.
Sen. Baldwin finished by saying the bill also took $1 trillion out of Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act marketplace to help big corporations and billionaires.
