A competency question has come up for a Fond du Lac man charged with breaking into four homes.
FOX11 reports that 19-year-old Justice Butzen had a bail hearing yesterday (February 24th).
Judge Andrew Christienson set his bail at $20,000 and asked Butzen to return to court in a week for an initial appearance when charges are expected to be filed.
His defense attorney, Rhen Helling, raised the issue of the 19-year-old’s competency, saying the suspect would be better suited to be released on bond so he can continue to get mental health treatment.
However, Judge Christenson said that the issue cannot be raised until formal charges have been filed.
City of Fond du Lac Police began investigating after residents on Primrose Lane reported waking up to find someone in their living room on February 17th at 2:00 a.m.
It was revealed that similar incidents happened in the same area before Butzen was arrested.
If the 19-year-old is released, he may go home but must avoid homes on other streets in the area.
