A local wrestler is looking to complete her comeback story in Madison.
Angie Bianchi, a senior at Two Rivers High School, is heading to the state tournament with one clear goal in mind: winning her third state championship.
Already one of the program’s most accomplished athletes, Bianchi swept the competition at sections as a result of years of dedication, discipline, and resilience.
“My goal is to be a State Champion,” Bianchi said. “It’s just one step closer to reaching my goal.”
This season, however, did not come without challenges.
Over the summer, Bianchi dislocated her elbow, forcing her to miss valuable time on the mat.
Her first tournament of the season marked her return from the injury, and she was determined not to let it slow her down.
“I just kind of had a chip on my shoulder to come back from that injury and overcome it,” she explained.
In preparation for the state tournament, Bianchi has maintained an intense training schedule.
She splits her time between practices at Two Rivers High School, Askren Wrestling Academy, and additional sessions with Nazar Training.
The variety and consistency, she says, have helped her stay sharp heading into one of the biggest weekends of her career.
When it comes to handling pressure, Bianchi keeps her perspective grounded.
“I just try to remember wrestling isn’t what defines me. I’m someone outside of wrestling,” Bianchi explained. “I’ve put in all the work and effort and training I could to get into this moment and just have faith in my training and god and my family.”
As she steps onto the mat this weekend, Bianchi carries not only her own ambitions, but also the pride of Two Rivers with her.
She will be joined by teammates Max Mathias and Derek Klnikner, and we will hear from those young men over the next couple of days.
