Substantial improvements are on the way to a major highway in Sheboygan County.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has announced that Governor Tony Evers has signed a $21 million contract for a rehabilitation project for Interstate 43 from Wilson/Lima Road to State Highway 42.
This 10.4-mile stretch of I-43 will run from the Town of Wilson to the Town of Sheboygan and is expected to begin on March 2nd.
Long-term closures will then follow in mid-March and last through July.
The $21 million project includes funding for repaving, structure maintenance on nine bridges, slope grading, and more.
Regarding the anticipated benefits of this rehabilitation project, the DOT stated, “This proactive rehabilitation will reduce long-term maintenance costs by preventing more severe future damage and the need for costly full reconstructions. Motorists will experience smoother, more comfortable driving conditions on refreshed pavement.”
