Local hoopers are in the running to be named the best boys and girls basketball players in the state.
The Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association has named its finalists for the Mr. and Ms. Basketball Awards, with players from Sheboygan, Winnebago, and Outagamie Counties making the list.
In girls hoops, Oostburg’s standout senior Ady Ketterhagen is among the favorites to take home the award as she averages 20 points per game, on 50% shooting from the field and a blistering 47% from behind the three-point line, powering the Flying Dutchmen to a perfect 23-0 record with one game left in the regular season.
On the boys side, Ketterhagen’s classmate at Oostburg, Jamison Zavatchin, has also been named a finalist.
The senior averages just under 30 points per game thanks to shooting an impressive 68% from the field and 44% from behind the arc.
Fellow Sheboygan County hooper Kayden Schultz of the 16-6 Plymouth Panthers is also in the running to be named Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin.
Per game, Schultz averages over 27 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Kaukauna’s Andrew Jensen is also one of ten finalists for the award, while Rowan Klesmit of Neenah is in the running for the Ms. Basketball honor as well.
The winners of both the Mr. Basketball and Ms. Basketball awards will be announced at their respective state tournaments in Madison and Green Bay next month.
