
The Manitowoc Lutheran boys’ basketball team looks to extend their winning streak to six this afternoon as they travel down I-43 to battle the Kohler Blue Bombers in a Big East crossover game.
The Lancers played a strong second half in defeating Hilbert 59 to 42 Thursday evening, which keeps their Big East Division Title hopes alive.
They, along with St. Mary Catholic, Reedsville, and Howards Grove, are in the mix heading into the final week of the regular season.
Kohler is 4 and 6 in the tough Big East South and 12 and 8 overall, and are playing back-to-back after hosting Random Lake last night.
The game is scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m.
Other boys’ games have Elkhart Lake/ Glenbeulah hosting Chesterton Academy of Milwaukee, St. Mary Catholic hosts the Prairie School of Racine, and De Pere heads to Middleton to take on the Cardinals.
Just one girl’s game of local and area interest, but it’s a dandy as 23 and 0 Oostburg takes on Stevens Point, ranked second in Division One at the Oshkosh Arena.
The scheduled tip-off is 1:45 p.m.
Berths in the WIAA team State Tournament will be punched today as WIAA team Sectionals are held around the state.
Valders will host a Division Three meet with a field that includes Mishicot, Brillion, Omro, Weyauwega-Fremont, and Westfield.
Meanwhile, Two Rivers participates in the Division Two Sectional at Wrightstown.
Other schools competing include Kiel, Chilton/ Hilbert, Denmark, Winneconne, and North Fond Du Lac.
The top team in each sectional advances to the state team tournament in Lacrosse, March 6th and 7th.
Seeding for the WIAA Boys Basketball Tournament takes place this weekend.
The opening round of regionals takes place on Tuesday, March 3rd, with regional semifinals on Friday, March 6th, and regional finals will be played on Saturday, March 7th.
Sectionals will be held on Thursday, March 12th and 14th, with the WIAA State Tournament to be held March 19th through 21st at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Pairings will be released Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and will be posted at seehafernews.com once official and verified.
Several local and area swimmers will compete in the WIAA Division One boys State Swimming and Diving Meet at Waukesha South High School.
A good contingent of athletes from Sheboygan County and the Green Bay School District will be looking to bring home hardware with Diving beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the timed swimming finals scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
