A teacher from the New London School District is accused of using cocaine in the bathroom of her classroom.
WBAY reports that 58-year-old Laurie Laubenstein has been charged with possession of cocaine after a school resource officer received an anonymous tip.
The whistleblower told the officer that they noticed a change in Laubenstein’s behavior and had seen her frequently going to the bathroom with her purse.
A criminal complaint also says bloody tissues and white powder were found in the bathroom.
The school resource officer visited the 58-year-old’s classroom the next day and noticed that Laubenstein looked anxious and nervous.
A small amount of white powder was found on a counter and later tested positive for cocaine.
The drug was also found in the teacher’s purse and coat pocket.
Laubenstein admitted to New London Police Officers that she used cocaine before, during, and after the school day.
A letter was sent to parents stating that students were never in harm’s way when she was taking the drug.
