The Wrightstown Fire Department is encouraging kitchen safety following an incident yesterday evening (February 18th).
The Department was called to an apartment building in the 800 block of County Road U on a report of a possible structure fire, but when they arrived, there was no smoke or flames visible from outside.
However, crews did note the faint smell of smoke, so they went inside.
It was there they found an oven had been put into self-cleaning mode with no one in the unit.
The apartment was ventilated to clear residual odors, but there was no active fire.
The Department issued a reminder to residents, saying, “Never leave your home unattended while an oven is in self-cleaning mode. These cycles generate extremely high temperatures, and someone should always be present to monitor for potential issues.”
They also thanked the Greenleaf Volunteer Fire Department, Lawrence Fire Department, and De Pere Fire Rescue for their rapid response.
