It was a record-setting year for an environmental endowment program.
Environmental groups submitted 11 requests totaling $55,000 to be shared from the FORWARD (Friends of Resources, Wildlife, and Recreational Development) Endowment.
The Manitowoc Fish and Game Protective Association was awarded just over $28,000 to eight requests, which, in itself, is also a record.
Gift Committee Chairman Dean Halverson says the FORWARD Endowment has become a key resource in maintaining and improving the quality of life enjoyed in the county.
The endowment has awarded over $200,000 in grants to projects and groups in Manitowoc County that seek to enhance hunting, fishing, conservation, and related education.
