A Roncalli basketball standout has surpassed a major scoring milestone.
The Jets boys hosted Valders at the Hanger on a night that would end up being very memorable for Roncalli junior guard Maddix Gulseth.
In the waning minutes of a 63-30 blowout win, Damon Ryan had the call.
That was a part of a 33-point night for Gulseth, who needed every one of those points to make the 1,000 point milestone.
Coach Josh Erickson said that the three-year starter is incredibly coachable, which has contributed to his success.
“I really can’t think of a player that’s grown as much as he has since the moment he walked in the gym here,” he revealed. “He’s one of those kids that just listens and soaks in everything you say. You don’t really have to explain things more than once, most of the time.”
While Maddix is a powerhouse offensively, Coach Josh says he is far from a one-dimensional player.
“He’s one of our better defenders now and leads our team in steals,” he noted. “He’s a nasty defender.”
Maddix remained humble, telling Damon that he attributes a lot of his success to his parents.
“Since third grade, my parents, have been…my number one fans, no matter what,” he explained. “Ups and downs. Me shooting the worst. Me shooting the best. I just love my parents. I’m so glad that they are always there supporting me on and off the court.”

With the win, the Jets improve to 17-4 on the season, 11-1 in EWC play.
Up next will be a very tough conference game in Brillion, where they will meet the 18-3 Lions.
