Two Rivers Public Schools appears to be realigning for the next school year.
Superintendent Diane Johnson introduced the school board last week to an elementary realignment plan that would move some students.
That includes all-day 4K and Kindergarten students moving to Koenig Elementary School in the 2026-2027 school year, while grades 1-3 would remain the same.
The school district is exploring options for 3-year-olds with special education needs while asking parents whether they should provide wraparound care for all grade levels, including 4K.
The change in the district follows a 2022 group of TRPS administrators who began researching the impact of grade-level realignment on student outcomes and the district’s financial health.
Last year, Johnson and other administrators learned that, like other districts in Wisconsin, they were facing declining enrollment.
The district explains that it’s due to multiple factors, including lower birth rates, statewide enrollment trends, increased participation in voucher programs, and broader demographic shifts.
The district also says that the realignment would create stronger collaboration among teachers, increase curriculum consistency, and improve the ability to provide early intervention and enrichment.
