A local State Assemblyman is continuing his fight to lower costs across Wisconsin.
26th District Assemblyman Joe Sheehan of Sheboygan has recently been a part of legislation in Madison, aiming to cut costs for not only residents but also for schools looking for grant funding.
Rep. Sheehan, along with Senator Jeff Smith, has introduced LRB-6038, a bill that would create a sales and use tax exemption for over-the-counter drugs.
It would ensure that when a Wisconsin resident purchases such drugs, they do not have to pay further costs, as they do with prescription medications.
Additionally, Rep Sheehan has co-sponsored Assembly Bill 357, a piece of legislation that would make it easier for schools to receive grants for technical education equipment.
Currently, schools must match the funds given by the grant in order to receive it.
However, if passed, Assembly Bill 357 would allow local businesses, entities, or in-kind donations cover the required match, significantly reducing costs for school districts throughout Wisconsin.
On the current financial situation for many of his constituents and Wisconsinites alike, Sheehan stated, “Right now, Wisconsin is facing a crisis of affordability, and it is our job as legislators to do what we can to help ease the burden of rising costs.”
AB-357 has recently passed both the State Assembly and Senate and is now heading to Governor Evers’ desk to be signed into law soon.
