The City of Manitowoc has accepted bids for two improvement projects.
The city will pay $198,350 for an expansion at the Manitowoc Skate Park, while about a $1 million will go toward Red Arrow Beach access improvements.
The Friends of the Manitowoc Skate Park have been raising money to update the park after the ramps began to deteriorate after 20 years of use.
Their group has since collected money for the Manitowoc Skatepark Preservation Project, including $100,000 from the city, a $100,000 grant from the West Foundation, and an additional $20,000 raised.
The accessibility project at Red Arrow Beach will include installing accessible ramps for people with disabilities and new stairs from the parking lot to the pedestrian path.
Plans also include a new pavilion area to host city events and music.
City documents explain that funds for the project were allocated in the 2025 2026 budget, but the city also got money from a Knowles-Nelson Grant through the Wisconsin DNR.
Construction on both projects is expected to get underway later this year.
