The Chilton community is being praised for stepping up to help a family in a time of need.
The Chilton Fire Department was dispatched to a home at W2316 Hickory Hills Road at around 5:30 Saturday morning on a report of a house fire.
The family of eight had escaped the residence by the time first responders arrived, and all of them were taken via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The fire was said to have started in the basement and burned up through to the first floor, forcing firefighters to attack it from outside.
The fire was eventually extinguished, but not before the family lost all of their belongings.
However, the Chilton Fire Department has reported that the community and surrounding areas have stepped up with clothing donations.
More items are needed, including bedding, winter coats, shirts, pants, shoes, and diapers.
Fire Chief Benn Schoenborn added, “The family has temporary housing with family members and is insured.”
