Another individual convicted following an armed robbery in Grand Chute is heading to prison.
FOX11 reports that 36-year-old Cory Schmitz was present inside an Outagamie County courtroom on Thursday (February 12th) for his sentencing hearing after being found guilty of one count of Armed Robbery with the Use of Force.
At Thursday’s hearing, Schmitz was ordered to spend eight years in prison followed by eight years of extended supervision by Judge Carrie Schneider.
Schmitz, Beau Wastel, and Michael Thorpe were all arrested by the Grand Chute Police Department in August of 2024 after the incident occurred at Affordable Rare Coins.
Wastel entered the store disguised as a woman and asked an employee to see items in one of the glass cases.
When the employee bent down to grab the items, Wastel hit him in the head with a wrench, chased them out of the store, and returned to steal merchandise with the aid of the other two suspects.
Since their arrest, all three men have been convicted and are now serving time behind bars.
