Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin is looking to crack down on wealthy investors who buy up single-family homes.
Sen. Baldwin recently introduced the Affordable Housing and Homeownership Protection Act, which would provide up to $50 billion over ten years to help build and preserve approximately three million affordable housing units nationwide.
She noted that this practice has affected Wisconsin communities big and small, making it difficult for families to find an affordable place to call home.
Sen. Baldwin called the bill a “win-win for Wisconsin families, rehabbing old homes and building new affordable ones, while cracking down on wealthy investors who are buying up single-family homes, raising prices, and locking out Wisconsinites from homes in their communities.”
The bill is supported by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, National Housing Law Project, National Consumer Law Center (on behalf of its low-income clients), Americans for Financial Reform, and Consumer Action.
