The Humane Society of Sheboygan County has been forced to dispel misinformation spreading online regarding a recently rescued animal.
A stray puppy was recently brought into the Humane Society by law enforcement after it was found near Walmart severely injured.
The puppy, internally referred to as Jewel, was found with a shattered pelvis and requires emergency medical care.
In emergency cases like this, the Humane Society confidentially contacts veterinarians, surgeons, and other partners to explore medical options, solely to secure timely and specialized care.
However, this information was eventually shared publicly, and a fundraising effort was created without the Humane Society’s consent or knowledge and before confirmed medical care or legal ownership of Jewel.
In response, the animal shelter stated, “We have asked that an unauthorized fundraiser related to this case be removed and that funds be returned to donors. HSSC is not fundraising for Jewel’s individual care at this time.”
While adding that they are committed to ethical, compassionate, and responsible animal care.
Jewel’s injury is considered an extremely time-sensitive and complex injury that requires timely intervention.
At this time, the Humane Society is working diligently and exhausting all available resources to determine the best outcome for the puppy.
Those interested in supporting animals facing urgent medical needs are encouraged to donate to the Humane Society of Sheboygan County’s Emergency Medical Fund, which can be done by visiting adoptsheboygancounty.org.
