A former treasurer at an Appleton museum is facing charges for using funding for personal expenses.
FOX11 reports that former Hearthstone Historic House Museum Treasurer Steven Jahnke faces one count of theft in a business setting after a criminal complaint alleges he admitted to stealing $70,000 from the group.
A board member became suspicious of transactions that were not related to museum operations, including cruises, vacation travel, and vehicle repairs.
Other museum accounts also had depleted funds when they reached a limit. Jahnke served as the Hearthstone Historic House Museum for six to seven years.
The criminal complaint also stated that he told law enforcement that he confused his personal cards with the museum’s cards, but didn’t provide specific instances.
He also claimed he would have paid the expenses back. The personal withdrawals happened between 2019 and 2025.
