Authorities in Fond du Lac County are investigating after a woman was found dead in a fire.
WBAY reports that a neighbor reported the fire after 10:00 a.m. yesterday (Wednesday). Fire crews arrived and could see smoke coming from the attic of the one-story before going inside and finding the 81-year-old woman deceased in a bedroom.
The fire was put out quickly before the investigation continued.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office believes the fire started in the basement, but they will continue to investigate how the 81-year-old passed away.
She is not being identified at this time.
Multiple fire departments were called to help put out the fire, including those from North Fond du Lac, Van Dyne, Eldorado, Lamertine, the Town of Fond du Lac, the City of Fond du Lac, and Nekimi. First responders also came from North Fond du Lac and Van Dyne.
