The Village of Mishicot wants residents to know more about an online epidemic that’s already taken lives.
The Mishicot Police Department is hosting a Sextortion Awareness Community Event on Wednesday, March 18th, at the Fairway Inn and Suites from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The event will teach parents and their teens about how sextortion starts, warning signs to watch for, and what to do if you become a victim.
There will also be a presentation from John DeMay, who will share the story of losing his son Jordan due to sextortion and the law enforcement investigation that followed.
Mishicot officials say sextortion is one of the fastest-growing online threats facing youth today, and many parents don’t realize how quickly things can escalate or how devastating the consequences can be.
Anyone interested in signing up can do so with a link on the Village of Mishicot’s Facebook page.
