Some of Milwaukee’s leaders are stepping in to fight food deserts in the city.
Alderman Russell Stamper and others gathered at the Sentry Foods on West Lisbon Avenue this week to discuss a proposal addressing food insecurity.
The proposal also takes aim at corporate disinvestment, noting multiple grocery store closures on the north side.
The leaders proposed multiple pieces of legislation aimed at keeping grocery stores and pharmacies from closing by providing financial help.
That includes requiring companies to provide a 60-day notice before closing.
