An Appleton man has been sentenced for his role in a fatal crash in 2022.
FOX11 reports that 26-year-old Bailey Laux was ordered to spend two years in prison followed by two years of extended supervision, after he was found guilty due to a no-contest plea on a charge of Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Vehicle.
The defense and prosecution had come to an agreement that would have kept Laux out of jail, but Judge Emily Lonergan said that the extended probation would not be a severe enough punishment, resulting in the two-year imprisonment.
Laux was texting and driving on I-41 in May of 2022 when he rear-ended another vehicle, killing Chelsey Jennings in the process.
At his sentencing, Laux volunteered to speak at local high schools about the dangers of inattentive driving and was ordered to do so during his probationary period.
