2026 will be a busy year for parks in the City of Sheboygan.
At the Board of Marina, Parks, and Forestry meeting held on February 3rd, Sheboygan Parks Manager Joe Kerlin laid out all tentative plans for the City this year.
Major projects at Evergreen Park include a 20’ x 24’ rentable shelter being installed, a hiking and biking trail bridge replacement, and replacing portions of the Evergreen Park road.
Additionally, the City’s Forestry Department also received a grant for Evergreen, which includes funding for a forestry plan and hazardous tree removals around the grounds.
Other notable projects include “working with the Historical Society in Madison and the Ho-Chunk Nation, to remove the open viewing mound in Indian Mound Park.”
This will go along with improving Citywide park ADA infrastructure, installing shade structures at the Kiwanis Park pickleball courts, seeking federal funding for trail improvements across Sheboygan, and developing a Park Assessment Plan to concentrate on park areas that are in need of improvements, among many other projects.
In addition to laying out the plans for 2026, Parks Manager Kerlin also announced that he will be retiring from his role, with his last day coming on February 27th.
