Two of the better high school girls’ basketball teams in the area meet in Kiel tonight as Manitowoc Lutheran takes on the host Kiel Raiders.
The Lancers come into tonight’s game with a record of 17-4, having defeated Howards Grove last Thursday night by a score of 59 to 52, while Kiel sits atop the EWC, having won all eleven conference games and has an overall record of 16-3.
The Raiders feature a balanced offense with seniors Maddie McDole, Liz Neils, and Taavi Saeger averaging double-figure scoring and a tenacious defense that allows just under 40 points per game.
Defense has also been the calling card for Manitowoc Lutheran. The Lancers’ 1-3-1 zone that gives up just 44.5 points and grabs 34 rebounds per game, that compliments the scoring of seniors Makiah Krause and Marissa Melhorn, who average 18 and 14.5 points per game, respectively.
Both teams are also looking for a quality win to enhance their postseason resume, with the seeding for the WIAA Tournament to be held this weekend.
Also in girls’ basketball, Mishicot looks to get back to .500 as they host the Sturgeon Bay Clippers.
In boys’ basketball, Roncalli hosts Little Chute, Two Rivers travels to Green Bay East, and Sheboygan Falls meets the Wrightstown Tigers.
In girls’ gymnastics, Manitowoc Lincoln hosts Kaukauna, and Roncalli/Valders entertains the Oshkosh North Spartans in Valders.
Both meets are scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
