For the third time in the past year, the suspect in a Manitowoc stabbing has been deemed incompetent to stand trial.
Court records show that 49-year-old Blanca Perez-Hernandez was back inside a Manitowoc County courtroom as she faces two counts of First-Degree Reckless Injury with the Use of a Dangerous Weapon.
At yesterday’s competency hearing, the court determined that Perez-Hernandez was still not able to properly comprehend the court proceedings, but is likely to gain competency in the future.
For this reason, she will continue her treatment and commitment in a mental health facility.
Perez-Hernandez was arrested last January after trying to steal license plates from cars in Manitowoc.
When confronted by the owners, she pulled out a knife and slashed one person before trying to attack another.
Upon her arrest, Manitowoc Police said that she told them that she worshipped “Santa Muerte” or the Saint of Death, who gifted her all of the cars in the world.
Perez-Hernandez will be back in court for another competency hearing on April 30th in Branch 2.
