New weapons detection systems are being installed at Milwaukee middle and high schools.
The OPENGATE weapons detection screeners started going into use on Monday, and South Division High School was among the first to experience it.
The newer technology allows students to keep their backpacks on, making the process more efficient and less intrusive.
Milwaukee Public Schools paid more than two-million dollars for the updated scanners, and plans to have all installed by the middle of April.
