A change is coming to the Reedsville Junior/Senior High School Breakfast Program.
Reedsville School District Superintendent Michael Nate told residents in the district that they have to suspend the program starting on February 16th, with the last day serving breakfast being February 12th.
He continued, explaining that over the past few years, the district’s food service department has worked hard to provide high-quality options for both breakfast and lunch while minimizing price increases.
However, even with revenue increases, the program hasn’t kept pace with its rising costs.
Participation numbers for breakfast haven’t gone up either, even after the district moved serving time from before school to between classes and offered hot items like pancakes and breakfast sandwiches.
The Reedsville Superintendent says the district understands that the decision will create hardship for some students and is working with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to find alternatives.
Nate reiterated that the decision made was not made lightly and included many staff members in the conversation to understand the full impact it would have on students.
