An area university is looking to celebrate Black History Month this week.
Lakeland University will be hosting a Black History Month chapel service on Thursday (February 5th) inside the Ley Chapel at 5:00 p.m.
At the event, Lakeland students Canaya Hayes-Jenkins, Olivia Hovey, and Raynisha Sims will be highlighted and will be performing a spoken-word poem.
Teon Austin, a father, educator, and trainer as well as the Director for Inclusion and Belonging for Marquette University School of Dentistry, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker.
Also set to make an appearance is 2017 Lakeland graduate Serina Jones, who, during her time at the university, was a member of the Beta Psi Nu sorority as well as a campus ambassador studying music, nonprofit studies, and criminal justice.
Those looking to celebrate Black History Month are encouraged to attend the event on the campus of Lakeland University.
