A Brillion man facing charges in the killing of his father has been deemed incompetent for trial.
Court documents show that 40-year-old Kenneth Nelson was back inside a Calumet County courtroom on Friday (January 30th) for his competency hearing as he faces one count of First-Degree Intentional Homicide.
At that hearing, Dr. Brooke Cefalu confirmed that it was her professional opinion that Nelson was not competent to understand the court proceedings but likely to regain competency in the future.
As a result, Judge Carey Reed suspended any further proceedings and moved to have the 40-year-old committed to a mental health facility for 12 months.
Nelson was arrested last month after authorities were called to the 2000 block of County Highway HR in the Town of Brillion.
Upon arrival, Calumet County Sheriff’s Deputies located a 66-year-old man, Nelson’s father, who had died by apparent blunt force trauma to the head.
With further proceedings cancelled in the case, Nelson will return to court on May 11th for a review hearing.
