State Senator Andre Jacque has introduced a bill aimed at making sure those looking to construct data centers are being transparent.
The measure, which was co-authored by Representative Clint Moses of Menomonie, would establish a clear and commonsense rule: data centers—and their agents—may not enter into agreements designed to hide or suppress information about a data center’s development from political subdivisions or property owners.
Furthermore, no city, village, town, or county may approve a data center project if the developer violates this transparency requirement.
The duo noted in the announcement, “This legislation simply ensures that the data center projects seeking local approval do so honestly and in the open, consistent with Wisconsin’s long-standing commitment to transparent government and fair commerce.”
