It’s not only a battle of dueling Panthers, but also a game between the top two teams in the Max Preps Division Five boys’ basketball poll battle this afternoon at Just-A-Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells as second-ranked Reedsville battles the top-ranked and undefeated Kickapoo Panthers.
Reedsville held the top spot for two weeks before Kickapoo passed them this week.
Kickapoo sits atop the Ridge and Valley Conference and feature 6-foot-right big man Alron Walter, who averages 18-and-a-half points and shoots better than 57 percent to go along with nearly 12 rebounds per contest.
Senior Makiah McCauley chips in nearly 15 points per game.
Their average margin of victory is 26 points per game, but if they have a weakness, it’s at the free throw line, where they shoot just 57-and-a-half percent.
Reedsville comes into today’s showdown at 13 and 1 and is led by the terrific senior trio of Ben Prochnow, Arden Strehn, and Jack Schawn, who combine for 51 of the Panthers 77 points-per-game on average.
Reedsville’s margin of victory is better than 27-points-per game, and they take care of the ball extraordinarily well, giving it away just seven times a game.
They also defend well, committing just 13 fouls per contest.
The scheduled tip time is 12:50 p.m.
The Roncalli boys’ basketball team begins a three-game road trip in Sheboygan Falls this afternoon as they play the Sheboygan Falls Falcons in an EWC contest.
The Jets ran their winning streak to four games Thursday night with a thrilling 66 to 63 double overtime win over Sheboygan Lutheran at the Hangar.
Their road trip will consist of stops at Two Rivers next Tuesday and to the Border Battle next Saturday, where they’ll play Mine-Ha-Ha at Hamline University in St. Paul.
The scheduled tip-off on Arden Luker Court in Sheboygan Falls is at 1 p.m.
Other boys’ games include undefeated Kewaunee hosting Green Bay NEW Lutheran, Sheboygan Lutheran hosts Kewaskum, Sheboygan Christian is home for Oakfield, Notre Dame Academy of Green Bay plays at Racine Lutheran, and West De Pere plays Yorkville Christian at the Prairie School in Racine.
St. Mary Catholic hosts Milwaukee Academy of Science, and Oconto heads to Gibraltar to battle the Vikings.
