Milwaukee Public Schools is among a group of Wisconsin’s largest districts asking state lawmakers for more funding.
Milwaukee signed a letter noting the district’s concern about having a major budget surplus, but no increase in general aid for schools in the state budget.
The letter said districts are facing the pressures of inflation, including paying more to feed students and power their schools.
They called the budget a “profound disappointment” and want to see a “bipartisan compromise on school funding.”
Superintendents from Madison, Kenosha, Racine, and Green Bay also signed the letter.
