The John Michael Kohler Arts Center is preparing to unveil a new, multisensory experience for its visitors.
The Arts Center is set to debut Emily Endo: Estuary in its gallery on February 7th through August 16th.
Endo’s Estuary is the artist’s largest exhibition to date and will also be the JMKAC’s first-ever scent-focused exhibition, inviting viewers to experience a multisensory display through sight and smell.
Endo is best known for their intricate glass sculptures, which pull inspiration from vascular systems, organic structures, and the boundaries between our bodies and the environment.
On how scent plays a pivotal role in this exhibition, the Art Center explained, “Closely tied to memory and emotion, scent has the power to transport, influence mood, and reshape perception. Rather than functioning as an accessory, curated fragrances throughout the gallery act as an extension of the sculptural works themselves.”
The display also explores how perception differs across species, with humans often prioritizing vision, while many animals rely on their sense of smell for survival.
In addition to having their exhibition on display, Endo will also be serving as the JMKAC’s first artist-in-residence for 2026.
