Milwaukee’s leaders want to see harsher penalties for negligent landlords.
Three Milwaukee aldermen spoke to reporters this week about a proposed ordinance that would install heavier fines for landlords who repeatedly violate housing rules.
The plan comes several days after a city apartment had to be evacuated for water and heating issues, forcing more than 50 people from their homes.
Those residents have been forced to stay in a hotel because the building was deemed uninhabitable.
Officials noted the proposed policy change is still in the early stages.
