A Manitowoc Menards employee is free on bond after being accused of stealing from the store over 15 times.
23-year-old Brian T. Gauthier was given a signature bond yesterday (January 26th) at his bail hearing as he faces one count of Retail Theft, $5,000 – $10,000.
According to a police report, Gauthier, a stocker at the Menards on Calumet Avenue, was seen via video surveillance cameras grabbing items off the shelf, placing them in a cart, and taking them to his vehicle without paying.
These thefts were brought to the attention of the Manitowoc Police Department when an employee at the Menards Corporate Office in Eau Claire noticed a discrepancy in their inventory.
In total, the 23-year-old is accused of stealing from his employer on 16 different occasions, with the first coming on October 16th.
The most stolen at one time was $2,877.81 on November 8th, while he is alleged to have taken $5,307.53 in merchandise over a four-month span.
Gauthier will return to court in Manitowoc County for an initial appearance on February 16th.
