An Appleton man is heading to prison after firing a gun during a road rage incident last year.
Court records show that 22-year-old Luke Vandenheuvel appeared inside an Outagamie County courtroom on Friday (January 16th) for his sentencing hearing.
This comes after Vandenheuvel was found guilty of Second-Degree Reckless Injury in December.
At Friday’s hearing, Judge Mark McGinnis ordered the 22-year-old to spend two years behind bars followed by three years on extended supervision.
A criminal complaint states that on July 13th of last year, Vandenheuvel cut off another vehicle while driving on Lynndale Drive in Grand Chute.
The driver of the other vehicle told authorities that he then switched lanes and passed the 22-year-old, who continued to follow the victim.
Eventually, Vandenheuvel caught up to the other driver, passed them, and fired a single round into their vehicle before fleeing.
After authorities identified his vehicle and obtained a search warrant for his residence in Appleton, Vandenheuvel was arrested and charged with the crime for which he is now heading to prison for.
