Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Just a reminder that means banks and federal offices will be closed today (January 19th) and no mail will be delivered.
Some kids also do not have school today due to the holiday.
If you need to go shopping or do other business, you might want to call ahead to make sure the place you’re going to is open today.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day officially became a holiday in 1983 after President Ronald Regan signed the King Holiday Bill into law, designating the 3rd Monday in January a federal holiday in observance of the civil rights leader.
The National Museum of African American History and Culture says it’s the only federal holiday designated as a day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer and improve their communities.
