A Manitowoc man is facing charges for getting into a truck without permission and resisting police.
Officers were called to a residence on N. 8th Street on Sunday morning (January 18th) just after 4:25 a.m. on a report of two men breaking into a truck.
It turned out it was only the 25-year-old suspect, who was held at gunpoint during the incident.
Manitowoc Police arrived and told the man to get on his knees, and he was taken into custody.
The victims said they were sleeping when they got a notification from their Ring camera and saw the intruder open the driver’s side door, put in his belongings, and get in the truck.
When confronted, the suspect allegedly said he wanted to take the truck so he “could look at the countryside.”
Once at the police station, Manitowoc Police say the 25-year-old suspect refused to sit down and continued pacing the interview room when they tried to ask him questions.
After asking the man to sit down for a third time, officers say he gave them the 1000-yard stare.
A second officer came into the interview room, but the 25-year-old began resisting arrest and using his 6’7” frame to stop officers from putting him in handcuffs against the wall of the room.
One officer ended up being “sandwiched” between the suspect and the wall and got hit three times by the suspect’s left elbow, causing him to be pushed backward and knocking over a chair.
Tasers were used to stop the 25-year-old, but after one worked, he would charge at an officer, causing them to trip and fall out of the interview room.
Backup was called, and another officer was able to subdue the suspect using his baton.
The man faces a litany of charges, including attempting to operate a motor vehicle without consent, three counts of battery to law enforcement, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and felony bail jumping.
